Welcome to The Story of Sevenhill Cellar’s History

Acknowledgement of Country

We would like to acknowledge the Ngadjuri people, the traditional owners of the land on which we meet today and pay our respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are present today.

Welcome to Sevenhill

Founded in 1851, this site hosts a rich historical tapestry within the South Australian landscape, being home to the Clare Valley’s first winery and the birthplace of the Jesuit mission in Australia.

Accessibility

Please note that Sites 2 and 15 on the heritage trail walk are stair-access only and are not wheelchair accessible. Additionally, the walk from Sites 5 to 13 requires crossing areas of soft, loose gravel.

Difficulty

The Sevenhill Cellars Heritage Trail spans 1.5km (2.6km including Site 10: Sevenhill Cemetery). The walk is Easy to Moderate, being mostly flat with some short inclines.

Please allow 1-2 Hours to fully immerse yourself in the Heritage Trail.

Caution

Please be aware that wildlife, including snakes may be present on the trail. To minimise risk, please stick to the walking paths. Site 7: Sandstone Quarry, while now decommissioned, was an active mine, and may still retain loose fragments. Please do not walk or climb into the Quarry.
